Moldavite 41 gram
A fine large Moldavite obtained from the collection of Kevin Schon. Moldavite of this size is not being found in the crater impacts any longer. Moldavite are named after the main impact in the late 1800s, at Moldau River in Southern Bohemia and the impact seems to have originated 15 million years ago. The chemical formula of moldavite is Si02(+A1203). Its properties are very similar to those of other types of glass with a Mohs hardness of 5.5 to 7. Moldavite is a Rare tektite glass formed from a meteorite impact freezing forms as they cooled. This piece is from Besednice, South Bohemian, Czech Republic.
